CIRCULAR | Day of Reparation and Atonement for the Sacrileges Against the Most Holy Eucharist in the Diocese of Cubao
Your Reverences, brothers, and sisters in Christ,
Peace of the Lord Jesus!
“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him" (John 6:53-56).
In recent months, we have witnessed, here in the country and abroad, a number of sacrileges and profanities against the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and against the Christian Faith, the most recent of which was the perceived mockery of the Last Supper at the opening of the 2024 Olympics in France. This year marks the 350th year of the apparition of the Lord Jesus to St. Marguerite-Marie Alacoque in France, revealing to her his Sacred Heart.
It is our duty not only to combat such disrespect but to compensate for the damage done through reparation and atonement as a Church. With the request of Rev. Fr. Randy Flores, SVD, and the Sacred Heart Parish - Shrine, and with the approval of His Excellency Most Rev. Honesto F. Ongtioco, D.D., we are hereby instructing all priests in parishes, chapels, and all religious communities to observe a Day of Reparation and Atonement on August 2, 2024, the First Friday of the month.
Here are some recommendations for your communities:
1. Celebrate the HOLY HOUR of REPARATION AND ATONEMENT FOR THE SACRILEGES AGAINST THE HOLY EUCHARIST. The Diocesan Ministry for Liturgical Affairs will be providing us with a copy of the necessary rites.
2. Pray the ACT OF REPARATION before each celebration of the Mass on that day.
3. Make a Vigil and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Adoration Chapels, tabernacles, and chapels for an extended period of time.
4. Perform voluntary acts of penance such as fasting and abstinence on that day.
5. Celebrate a Penitential Service or make the Sacrament of Reconciliation
In humility, let us ask God for his mercy and forgiveness so that we may be transformed by His presence. Let us remember the words of the Apostle Paul, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life” (Gal 6:7-8).
May the Lord bless us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
